>>2591857Amateur racing is a great place to practice your craft. Ask the marshalls if you can access some of the less risky photo locations; I was shown an area behind the barriers where lens cutouts in the fence gave me some great shots at my local track.
Your greatest enemy will be the environment. Sunlight, heat, insects, mud, rain, humidity. Come to the track comfy for a day of shooting, not for lounging around under a beach umbrella. Keep your photo kit to the essentials: walkaround lens for pit walk, telephoto for everything else. You don't really need a monopod until you get into the 200/2/, 300/2.8, and 400/5.6 range. Git gud at panning, but don't forget to take interesting snapshits of track life. If it's a HPDE, bring a helmet and go for some ride a longs.
