the 2nd best would be getting an e-bike. I've got meself an e-MTB (Riese & Müller Superdelite with two batteries) and it opened up a lot of terrain I would never had explored otherwise. here in germany you can't just off-road with your car because it's verboten. so you either go on foot or have to resort to a bike. me being a fat lazy bastard on foot I would never explore more than 5km. but with my ebike I regurarly do 100km tours.
