There was a thread a few weeks ago with some corkers. Pictures with exactly the same arrangement of birds clearly just stamped in, HDR overkill, all sorts.

No. Focus and recompose guarantees that your subject is always out of focus. Think about it, you put your subject in the center, set the focal plane to intersect it/them then swing that focal plane away from them before taking the shot.
It's fine for wider DoF but any movement after focus is acquired will move it where you don't want it.

The inverse square law says that light's intensity reduces by the square of the distance from its source. So moving a light source from 1m to 2m away will have a large effect, but 4 to 5 won't have that much.

How come the same doesn't apply to light bounced off a subject? So if I'm 1m from my subject lit by the sun, why don't they get any darker as I move away? Is it because the original source (the Sun) is already hundreds of millions of km away, so adding a few m won't do anything noticeable?

I think I've answered my own question but please correct me if I'm pic related.
