The orange arrow is where your mirror is located, if you take a picture, the mirror flips up and the blue arrow can get to your sensor, exposing your picture. That's why there is a little moment of not seeing anything though your viewfinder when you take a picture (parallax error).
A mirrorless does not have the mirror obviously, the image you'll see though your viewfinder is a digital image. Without the image they can be build smaller than DSLRs, the digital viewfinder will eat your battery faster though.
