in fact with the D5600 I unga bunga'd it and it's not an issue. Some ribbon cable was attached to the IR filter and I just yanked it and it still works
just get one or two cheap used bodies
the real PITA with IR photography is finding consumer lenses that play well and render IR pseudo color well because a lot of nice mid-quality and prosumer primes and zooms will hotspot badly at certain apertures and focal lengths
