I think it's an ok term to be used colloquially as mtf graphs can be confusing for people not technically minded, especially with the myriad of ways the data is presented in graphs. People used to say it a lot about Leica lenses, and I bet they do hit higher mtf values then film lenses of yesteryear. Reviewers\consumers being able to objectively measure these things is relatively new.

Fuji the camera company don't make any of their own lenses, they're all done by a subsidiary company, Fujifilm optical division. Fujifilm are a chem company that sells cosmetics, emulsions and industrial chemicals, not an optical engineering company. Fuji also outsourced a lot of their camera engineering work to xacti, because they're not a consumer electronics company, and digital cameras are consumer electronics. Fuji don't even make their own sensors, at all, lol.
