When I started, even sub $2k full frame was not a possibility, so I really don't think I did too bad building a system around a 550D.
But in 2019, I think salient advice would be
>skip babby sensors entirely>skip AA speedlights entirely>skip slow zooms entirely>git gud at photoshop (no, not slider-mashing lightroom, big swangin dick photoshop) immediately, even by spending money on courses if you want, you will never regret this>if ISO 800 and f/1.4 isn't enough, you need a flash or a tripod, not a better camera>if you can't afford a $1000 tripod, keep saving
