I think the frameline thing is to make people use it less. I can imagine people would go around zoomed in to 50mm all day which will only use like a quarter of the sensor so Leica want to dissuade people from doing that.
It is quite nice leaving it on 35mm with the framelines but I do try and revert to 28mm for 95% of shots.
