Typical smart DX owner kit
Started with babby's first DSLR with kit. Bought the flash and tripod. Possibly bought the 70-300 and 35DX at the same time as well, sensible DX lens choices. Picked up a D7000 on fire sale this holiday season. The Lowepro was probably a gift to yourself, something nice to carry the gear in.
You could do without that awful battery grip though. It's not like MB D11s are expensive in the first place.

But it is possible your shit lens was just shit. Test it on another body to rule it out or not.
