I prefer the Thinkpad, when I was in laptop repair we almost never saw them come across my bench for repair and we had corporate accounts with thousands of them on payroll. I did one motherboard replacement the whole time I was there for 3 years.
They make IPS screens for the Thinkpad, Lenovo/IBM calls them Flexview, I'm ordering one for my T60.
The two big things you will want are a good screen and tons of memory. Lightroom and Photoshop is a memory hog and any modern browser by itself will take up half of a GB of memory just running in the background. 16gb kits are cheap.
