Which is the better choice for an old manual lens, the Micro Nikkor 55mm f/3.5, the Vivitar 55mm f/2.8 macro, or the Canon FD 50mm f/3.5, I also have a 55mm f/1,2 from canon, so the latter would mean I just need one adapter

Poor man's building new setup with zoom lens. Focusing distance from about 4 to 25 cm, various magnification ratios; much more versatile than my previous setups.

pic related is a test shot with shitty diffuser (also first bug shot since two years, I almost forgot how hard it is).

Who here besides me is a sucker for wafer thin DOF in macro shots? I like it because it gives a more abstract effect to photos, there is a couple of pictures of the Samyang 85mm on extension tubes being shot wide open

eh kinda. I use close-up lenses and not a real macro lens, so the razor-edge DOF you get shooting at like ƒ4.5 or something is pretty ugly. With a real macro lens I'm sure it's cool beans though

So I just bought a reverse adapter for £2 from Hong Kong. Got it in the post this morning. Holy shit I wasn't expecting it to be this good.

Best purchase ever!!

These are from my first few shots, all free hand (but resting against a table for stability). I will need to find my tripod and some cool stuff to take photos of ASAP.

nice, but I suggest stoping down a little.. f/5.6-11 is usually best.

got mine as well and tried last weekend (first time using with fuji and 28-50mm). Been shooting jpeg the evening before and forgot to go back to raw.

It's a strange lens, I wouldnt call it the bee's knees but it does its thing well. I use the mp-65 and the canon 100 macro, most of these will be with the non-L version which I only just recently picked up.

Lights are mixed from no-name studio lights, alienbees 800, and canon 430ex.

They serve different purposes. A reversal ring brings your MFD way down, but also adds quite a bit of magnification.

Not sure, I got some extension tubes but they arrived yesterday so i didn't have a chance to try them out yet.
Extension tubes don't magnify as much so might be an easier starting point
This was taken with a kitlens and reversing ring, I can post a 100% crop as well if you want

I would like some feedback. Took this picture a while ago and been stuck with trying to capture the northen lights but it's spring now and I want to shoot more macro stuff. Anything except the object i can improve?

I guess the comp is okay for what it is

This picture lacks a clear motive.
It's a stick in front of a blurry background and the leaf is not particularly interesting.
I also think the DOF is a bit too shallow.

For regular macro work, the DoF is too shallow, but maybe they were going for a more abstract shot, kind of like me, as I find regular macro shots where everything is in focus and soft from diffraction to be boring
