They can be acceptable everyday cameras for many, although most "serious" photographers would still opt for something like a Sony RX or Fuji X100 for a smaller, more discrete everyday camera.

Yup; phone cameras can actually take pretty good pictures, but only if it has light from the Sun in the middle of the day with no clouds in the dead of Summer.
