Has any of you tried customizing a split focus screen into a DSLR? Anyone into a D600 specifically? Tell me about your experience.

split screen is so much better at manual focus than focus peaking, and it doesn't affect autofocus either. Don't understand why dslr don't offer that as an option.

Because it affects metering. Specifically, Center and Spot can be off by miles.
Also, splits go dark above f4/5.6. Again, metering, and it's kinda annoying having a black half-circle in the middle of your view. Remember that most glass sold nowadays is 3.5-5.6.

They'd be great on crop because I don't think i've used an AF crop body with an acceptable viewfinder. They're like looking through a dim tunnel.

No, that costly niche product is still not an answer to a d600, a 6d or pretty much any other ff on the market at it still is a different kind of product.
