Hey. It's my birthday coming up next month and I want to be an instant camera. Been looking at the Lomo'instant Boston Edition and the Fuji Mini 90.

What one is better? There seems to be very little information on Instant Photography

Get the Fuji. The Lomo instant is a gorgeous looking camera on the outside, but the photos it takes are downright tragic.

Consider the Instax wide, it's ugly, but the photos of the 90 are really tiny

You do realise that the film is nearly $1 per shot, right? If you can't afford to keep buying film you're going to end up spending money on a camera that you then never use again.

Well, I'll echo >>2593393 about going for something that takes Instax Wide film. The Instax Mini film (which both the Mini 90 & the Lomo Instant use) is about the size of a credit card which is quite disappointing if you were expecting something like a classic Polaroid.

Amazon have Wide cameras for under £70 so you could get one of those & a whole bunch of film, or just get a few packs of film & let your mother keep the rest of the money.

Oh nice. The new Instax Wide 300 is cheaper than both the Mini 90 and the Lomo. I'm gonna look at some reviews for all three.

I never knew instant cameras was such a niche market

Well digital cameras & instant uploads to facebook completely replaced the instant gratification that instant film offered. And professionals who would use instant film on their medium format bodies to check lighting etc. before shooting on normal film just moved to digital backs.

Fuji instanx90 is good, it has controls (bright/ darken photos, double exposure ect), two release buttons, RECHARGEABLE BATTERY, way better build quality than the other instanx line, mini digital display.

I like it and its reliable and they usually let them in at concerts.

pic is The Horrors/ double exposure, one exposure with flash the other without.

Or if you wanna go super hardmode get a medium format camera with a Fuji back so you can use FP-100c

Does everything I need and pictures always come out great as long as you don't expose the film to anything you shouldn't! (More than one friend popped the back down while film was in it still) Pictures are about the size of a credit card as stated before but I love that size to be honest. Also $1 a shot is a pitfall. Goodluck though!

Get a Polaroid Packfilm Camera. I've got a Polaroid 100 and it's great. The film is $9 for a pack of 10 photos. And you've got to buy the battery for the camera or jerry rig it to accept double/triple A batteries. The prints are much more high quality than all of the other Polaroid film on the market (Fuji).

Having both an Instax Mini (the 50s) and a Wide 210, I'd say go with the Wide, if you decide to go the Fuji route. It's usually a dollar more for 20 exposures on Amazon compared, think $16 compared to $15 for Mini film, and it's just really fun overall. There's something I find oddly satisfying about how clunky the 210 looks and feels.
