The guy was a bastard child at a time when that was a big deal, he's reported to have been gay which was a huge deal, yet he kept notebooks his whole life where he studied things by doing experiments and drawings. He didn't just magically start producing paintings and inventions, he worked at it his whole life. He could have easily just said "well, the cards are stacked against me" and not bothered, but he didn't.
If you put in a bit of time each day, keep a notebook to write your ideas in, slowly that will build up. Treat your creativity like a muscle, start by lifting the small weights before moving up to the big ones. If you're stuck for ideas google "photography challenge" and look in the images, there are lots of numbered lists where you can do one a day, or one a week. Just keep going at it and remember it's normal to hit peaks and troughs.
