The problem with photography is that your so limited physically by the technology it's almost impossible to do anything technically wrong (although you managed by missing focus completely). There is no secret technique to clicking a button.
If you can't see why your photos are shit, you need to learn how to look. The only way to do this is to open books, go to galleries, make notes, practice, repeat.
One small bit of relevant objective critique, if you take photos in a zoo, don't allow it to be apparent, I don't want to know this beautiful creature is locked in a cage.
This means you need to focus on composition, as far as subjective advice goes, I try and concentrate on what I am excluding from the frame rather than including, clean images make for good shots.
Here's some buzzwords for you to open books and do Google searches on. Classical art theory is just as useful and relevant as articles that focus on the photographic medium.
Composition
Colour theory
Light & shadow
Movement
Negative space
Subject isolation
Rule of thirds
You will also need to put in a few hundred hours on lightroom before you will begin understanding not only how the programme works, but how to manipulate it effectively and quickly, so you can make the most out of each image.
Then when you get to around 50'000 exposures and several thousand hours you should hopefully be good enough to not only ask for criticism. But to get meaningful replies back. This isn't guaranteed though, just look at sugar, he's been here for years and continues to get worse.
Now take your advice and butthurt out of here and come back in a fortnight and share what you've learnt.
