>>2608387Pretty much all of the art world is a circlejerk, photography or otherwise.
Only pure documentary photography, taken for the express purpose of rendering a still image (or video, even) of an event exactly as it occurred, and designed for the broad audience, can be considered anything of merit that isn't about "muh feels" and "muh expression". And whenever I hear somebody start talking about art that way ("this particular piece is so universally special because it makes ME feel something") I sort of want to roll my eyes into the back of my head.
Don't get me wrong, art very much has a place and I don't dislike it. But I'm not deluded enough to think that my very specific song selection, the movies I like, the anime I watch or the photographs I take or enjoy viewing or indicative of anything other than my own subjective personal tastes, derived from who I am as a person. It's all got a very personal meaning, and I love finding people who share the same tastes, but by definition that pretty much is a circle jerk, even if it is less obnoxious.
