I'm having difficulty focusing (especially at close range) my Auto Chinon 28mm f2.8 on my D5000, this is a commom problem or I've done something wrong?
I'm using a m42 w/ lens adapter

You are probably trying to focus closer than the minimum focus distance of your lens. You can purchase a set of macro tubes to decrease this minimum distance. Or if you wanna be more serious business about it you can get a dedicated macro lens.

M42 lens on Nikon is generally a troublesome combination due to Nikons retarded flange distance. The glass adapters for infinity focus usually worsens the IQ to a point where the image becomes too soft for focusing. The problem is not your lens, it's the adapter and the camera body design.
I'd recommend getting an old Nikkor manual lens in the same focal length.
If you are overly interested in M42 lens, you would be better off with a Pentax camera.

i've bought this camera w/ a bargain, not a option change it.

wich old lenses are the best to fit my camera?

No. The focus confirmation is the most precise way of focusing MF with a DSLR.
The focusing screen can be a bit misaligned, the pentamirror assembly is never as precise as a pentaprism. Plus the diopter setting don't have anything with focusing.
I suggest OP use focus trap and see how it affects the outcome. If it is still soft then it's the adapter. M42 lens don't go well with Nikons.
