>>2610127It depends on the size of the animal. Anything from small lizard sized and up, just use a telephotos lens and hunting techniques. When I say hunting techniques, I mean things like wearing camo (yes it helps), using blinds, bait, standing down wind, staking out nesting sites etc. Photo technique wise, put a priority on fast shutter speeds even if it means more noise in your photo than you would ordinarily be comfortable with to get the shot. The photo is worthless if it's blurry anyway.
Bugs: a macro lens with relatively quick autfocus -for a macro lens- is a huge help. An extra light source like a ring flash or even a flashlight helps too. The most successful way to catch non-household bugs is to go out innawoods or bush and net them, or bring camera along, where long pants, tromp around and take photos of anything that lands on you.
