Let me tell you now, the F4, as a first generation AF camera, fails to give you the best of both worlds of AF and MF. It has a single, line-type AF sensor which is, predictably, primitive. It doesn't come stock with a split prism, although mine does. It's not ideal for MF because the weight is high and not as lithe as the MF bodies. It's an alright camera overall, certainly one of the most advanced MF bodies ever made, that just happened to AF as well. Battery life isn't great, but at least it doesn't consume power when the camera is off, unlike the F5/F100. No VR or G lens aperture control (S, P priority only) kinda sucks.
A F5 or F100 with a split prism would blow it away, for approximately the same price. It just won't mount pre-AI lenses, that's all.
