Why is there no slr equivalent to the modern digital Leica rangefinder?

Faulty sensors that apparently have to be changed every so often?

I'm just trying to understand how they've managed to maintain their resale value. I mean, I know about all the non-material - and mostly stupid - reasons for such, but does the tech actually hold up?

I mean in the day and age of the microprocessor, shit's disposable.

Long gone are the days where a TV, or even a fucking toaster will just keep going and going.

I get why film M's can maintain a price, but something that's filled with disposable electronic components?

The tech has never held up. That's why it's gone. The reasons to buy a leica have nothing to do with the hardware, which is why the price is still high.
People have joked that Leica could sell a limited edition Leica kit in a black box, sell 10 of them for $50,000 each, and put a brick of aluminum inside, and they'd sell.

What's your perception of the "M" (type 240)?

From what I've read, the M9 is more like an m7 with a digital back or something, and the M is the first true proper leica.

Lenses aside, what's everyone's perception of this model?

Dude, I dont know how wealthy you are but just think about this:

Leica M9 - ~ $2.500 - $3.200
and then you will need lens (~$1.500 - $3.000)
Lets say the total is ~$5.000.

Now imagine the gear you can buy.

Now imagine buying a m240 which will cost you around ~$5.000 (body only) with lens it can go up to ~$7.000 or +....

I'd rather buy a D4s lol
