If you are wondering when you would potentially see this kind of pattern ghosting, it only happens in very rare situations, where a very bright source of light (such as sunlight) is in the frame and the lens is stopped down to f/11 and smaller apertures.

Never been an issue for me... The bigger issue stopped down further than f/11 is diffraction. And if you're using the right lenses, I can't imagine needing to be stopped down that far with no alternatives (like an ND filter)

So rare in my experience as to not be a cause of concern. You have a live view, you'll see it before you shoot the photo. Moving slightly will fix it.

The speculation that it's more common outside of the middle? I dunno, but it's not particularly common there either.

I've been shooting mirrorless cameras since 'the og' g1, in addition to DSLR cameras. I'm particular about my image quality, going to lengths to optimize it where I can, and always experimenting to discover what new territory I can push a camera or lens into.

I have never seen this phenomenon once in my life, including shooting into direct harsh light.

The situations this happens in are typically terrible photos to begin with unless you have a very interesting silhouette you're trying to play against the sun.

mmm If I were stupid enough to try and hand hold with a shutter speed slow enough for mirror slap to be an issue the subject would have moved on anyway. But of course you wouldn't realise this because mirrorless can't focus on moving subjects.

Yes they are. And with 8x times zoom at manual focusing on muh articulating screen really makes a difference. I don't need ovf

Focus screens were invented for no reason, huh?
People shooting 8x10 don't usually use magnifying glasses or frensel lenses either?
Likewise, distance scales are never used.

Your eye cannot distinguish focus on that small of a scale.

The inaccuracy of OVFs is due to the fact that most modern SLRs lack proper fucking fresnel focusing screens, meaning that you have to guess when something is in focus, rather than look at a little circle in the middle of the VF

Its not bullshit at all. What isi means by critical focus is that DSLR autofocus is not 100% accurate 100% of the time, it's always just "good enough." Auto-aperture also adds a bit of inaccuracy itself (due to focus shifting between apertures) but these things are generally accepted because 'good enough' and 'fast.'

For critical focus, that means when you care about getting every last drop of detail out of your system and maximum sharpness of your subject, an EVF is capable of being more accurate, at the expense of taking longer to use.

In other words, mirrorless cameras are for thoughtful photographers, and DSLRs are for spray-and-pray fags.
