Do you guys crop your photos? Or do you just leave them as is? Like when importing a picture to the computer for retouch, do you crop as well to another resolution?

I crop but minimally and never change from 3:2

like I mainly crop to cut out a tiny bit of something distracting on the end of a photo. I don't think it should be as big of a deal as some people make it out to be

plus, you can do the same minimal crop shit in an actual darkroom

I crop 2.35:1 a lot of the time. It's a personal/preference/style kind of thing.

Nope, I don't really like post processing, I like to get things right in the moment.
If I need to crop it that means I didn't do it right in the first place and I usually just embrace the imperfections.

I mean that yes, on a technical level, you are losing a percentage of the total possible amount of information every time you crop. You are throwing pixels or grains or dye couples away, and thus reducing overall technical quality.

Artistically, it's better to crop out that big white spot in the corner of your photo than to worry about losing a few pixels. The photo with more pixels may have a higher technical quality, but it's artistically worse.

I really like interesting croppings, Man Ray was really good at it.

I like 16:9 for street photography because it makes you feel it's a establishing shot in a film and another character is about to walk in.

I like oval cropping for portraits because it looks more like a painting and somehow makes it look less fleeting or whatever.

I like square crops for symmetry in some cases and sometimes because it was more common in early photography so it helps throw off the viewer a little when they try to guess the context of the picture

The sole image responsible for convincing HCB to start photographing was cropped.

Cropping is a tool, one of many in a photographers toolbox and should not have its nose turned up at it just because it can at times be viewed as an alternative to finding the best composure when you still had the camera in hand.

I crop when I think it will help but I don't have any rules for or against it

Don't let a DSLR's 3:2 or a TLR's square ratio make you think that it's the only ratio that makes sense.

That being said, Instagram pretty much ruined the square ratio for me.

Sometimes yeah, especially if I'm printing 8x10 (I usually leave my camera in 3:2 no matter what).

But it's no more or less of a tool than white balance. Don't fear your tools, you'll get more out of them.

A photo I take may find itself as an 11x14 print, or a 1080p 16:9 wallpaper.

1:1 is a very difficult ratio to compose within. You can only really put something in the centre, even with leading lines your eyes still get drawn to the centre of a square frame. At least that's how how it feels for me.

I got into that habit when I shot with my TLR. Maybe it's just laziness but I never remember seeing complex compositions in 1:1 images

I've only shot three rolls of film with my TLR and the only thing I remember is that it didn't feel very natural. Sure, I don't have to think about orientation, but I cannot break away from thinking about Instagram, album covers or square beverage coasters.

There is no such thing as "no pp" when shooting RAW. It never comes "right out of camera" because it's not supposed to. It's supposed to give you all of the raw material to work with.
And if you're taking straight OOC jpgs, you're just letting a computer do the pp for you in a standardized manner.
There is no such thing as "no pp" when it comes to digital photography.
