is it possible to get into photography using the shitty ass camera in my lumia 535 or should I just give up now?

also what books would you recommend me to get into photography?

Any camera that works is good enough to get you started. You will be extremely limited with what you can do with that camera though. But if photography is really in your heart, you will desire to want to do more and get the equipment needed to do just that. I would use your current camera for now to decide if you want to take it to another level.

There are pople on GTA that take better pictures than most of /p/, this isn't a very good example but the first I could be bothered to find.
A better camera allows you to do more advanced stuff, but for starters, a phone should be sufficient.

Learn about composition, colors, patters and so on, you don't need a pro camera for that.

Yes. The pictures won't be super high-def (i.e. you might not want to print them on 8x10's), the camera might be slow (took me literally a minute to take this picture because my phone was crapping everywhere) and you will have limited control, but you can do it. Composition is more important than gear.

This is the last of my favorites from the small set... sorry for hijacking!

The biggest reason, for me, to upgrade from a phone to an "actual" digital camera is the control and the speed which comes from using something that's meant solely for photography. You don't need an SLR or even one of those super-zoom cameras, just a point-and-shoot will do you good if you want more than a phone.
