>>2639147I absolutely agree with you. And that's the same reason every digital camera in this thread will be forgotten in 40 years. There's no risk taking, there's no unique features, there's no "Well who knows what the market will want? Maybe it's a little camera shaped like a horse!" like there used to be. No feature that exists right now won't be DEMOLISHED in the future.
Leicas aren't classic because they're still competitive, they're classics because they offer a unique fun experience you can't get elsewhere. Eye controlled focus, medium format, a tiny manual only SLR, a monochrome sensor, etc. Nobody looking to shoot video in 2045 is going to be picking up a 5Dmk2 for the "unique experience of shooting with it, and the unique look it gives" because the look is just "shitty" compared to modern stuff.
People like film because it has a unique pleasing look. Early digital tech has a unique GROSS look that people aren't going to miss.
The only thing the D800 has going for it is the large megapixel sensor. And once we're shooting with 50mp in our phones in 20 years, 36pm isn't going to be special, unique, or desirable. this shit will all be forgotten because there's no soul to it. nothing to stick in your heart. Fuji is trying, but eh, it's still too shallow, and the advancements coming down the pipe are too real.
