I similarly got myself a decade-old digital pro body recently, a Nikon D2X. Crop sensor though, 12MP.
I like that it promises about 600 frames on a 16G card, and don't mind that most of its restrictions (100-400 acceptable ISO, 800 highest native, above that is outside of the ADCs' native range) are very similar to what I'd accept while shooting film anyway. And the output does have all of what one would expect of digital images, except for high ISO and full-frame DoF.
Shit's cash. It was also cheap enough to be my "take anywhere camera" (like a F3, or a compact), though the body is so tall that often I take the lens off for transport. No way I'd do anything but baby a more expensive camera.
