Hi guys,

I am new to p and i want to buy a camera to start in this world.
According to what I read, mirrorless cameras are almost the same quality that a DSLR buy way more portable. I dont want the camera for sports or pro macro pics, just something able to take good street / night pics.

Recommendations??

Here's what I've found
So mirrorlesss are stunning cameras go have, you can get a Sony a6000 for I believe in that range. It's as good as a nikon d4s (I believe), but here's 2 major problems
1.) battery life
Battery life is usually terrible, with only 200-300 shots per battery life, you can buy more, but it is a hassle for sports photography, or anything that requires a long battery life
2.) lenses
I've done research before on lenses, and they are sometimes difficult to find varieties, (I'm rusty on this subject so IDGAF about how km wrong about this subject) if you already have a dslr camera, I say keep it, because it's like switching companies, gotta get whole new lenses for it, and layouts are different.

The X-E1 with lenses is a bit off the budget. Something a little cheap? i have to pay ship and a lot of taxes for electronical devices in my country.

a6000 is $600+ with a kit lens. a5000 is more in your budget if you're going with Sony.

I recently bought an a5100 and I like it. It is pretty compact, but it's not tiny. Battery life is good and supposedly lasts ~400 shots. I charge it before I take it with me and haven't gone under 50% yet. No idea about lenses, since I just bought it to learn photography. Picture and video quality is good.

It's got way more bells and whistles than I really need, but weather proofing would have made it perfect.

If you're looking for an entry level camera, consider a Pentax K50. Weather proof and there's a kit that comes with a couple of WR lenses all under $500. That's what I have my eye on next. Just took my camera on a kayak and was very afraid a tiny drop of water would ruin it.

I saw an XE1 body under $100 on eBay tonight.
Look around. They're getting very cheap.
Pics related: XE1 and various lenses (some native, some not)

X-E2 is fine too but the lack of a viewfinder mode buttons actually incredibly annoying.

AF isn't the greatest, so if you're really wanting faster AF, get the XE2. But it's really perfectly fine for most things, you just need to learn to use contrast detection properly; look for nice and defined edges to focus on.

just got an rx1 lately. found it for 1k so I made the choice of a full frame over the xe2 or tge x100t (that was my first choice).

having a real fuckin challenge trying to compensate with meh AF and such a tight lens... I have to get so close to people to get anything in focus and well framed. Any advice on this?

Also OP the x100t is a great option if youre looking to spend a little more. the rx1 only if you can find it used for the same price.

Had the 18-55 for a long time. Sold it after I bought a voigt 25mm since I mostly used the 18-55 around 23-25mm anyway.

I'm using a Samyang 8mm 2.8 (this shot: >>2643315), a Voigtlander 25mm f4 (other shot I posted), a 90mm f4 Elmar, and a 50mm 1.9 Yashikor.

Three exposures, 1ev apart each, but...it could be processed from any of the individual shots that make it up, too. It's a very, very mild HDR that had to be done simply because the sun is in the frame. Most of the info is actually in the middle file, and coming from the middle file (pic related)

Getting focus with AF systems that are kinda shitty mostly comes down to practice with the system. If you're using contrast detection (assuming the RX1 is using it, not too informed about that camera) the camera wants to find and focus on high contrast areas; in my photo to the left for example a contrast detection system would be very pleased to focus on those treebranches. Prefocusing is your friend with shitty AF systems too.

Weather sealed. Glorious 5-Axis image stabilization. Good to ISO 6400. Metal build. Massive array of awesome lenses available.

You ever thought of getting an A7 to replace the X-E1? most of your pics are landscapes which would benefit from full frame and Sony's peaking is better. Tbh i'm only with Fuji for the lenses, everything else is a bit behind the curve when you compare price-price

I much prefer Fuji's control layout, and use manual lenses as a matter of preference for the most part; AF is no biggy to me as I generally shoot deeper dof, and MF lenses are much smaller. I can fit a 3 lens MF kit in my purse. The Fuji UI, peaking aside, is much more congruent with the feel of a film camera, too.

Sonys are better if you care about tech specs, but I don't. I care about feel and certain unquantifiable things about the system; I really like the x-trans sensor, too, for example. The noise is more random than a bayer sensor, the repetition is less obvious, and that makes it somewhat more "film-like"

if I need more resolution, I have a lot more tricks up my sleeve than "buy another camera"- but I've found I rarely need more resolution.

While it is an HDR, the person insisting it's a shitty HDR based on tones and shit is clearly visually illiterate.

Because what I just confirmed is actually that its mostly one shot. It has highlight info from +1 to save a little more sky from the sun, and shadow info from -1 to spare me a little noise; all of the shadow detail is already in the middle frame, but it'd be the equivalent to iso 400 if I pulled it up only from the middle frame.
