>>2646168Very much so. In fact it's preferable that you do something like that, focusing on the artistic elements of photography like composition before worrying about the technical side (you'll run into issues where you'll start looking into the technical side).

Buy Brain Peterson's Understanding Exposure right this moment (with p&s/phone cameras, you generally won't be able to mess with your triangle settings, but this is the best book for learning it)
And beyond that, hit youtube for tutorials, flickr, 500px, and places like magnum and vanity faire to find and look at what you think are awesome pictures. Ask questions, get involved in some community/club on facebook and in real life. Just basically start doing it and use the resources that you have available.
