teaching photography...

No.2646429 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Okay pee, listen up. My gf is eager to learn photography. Therefore I gave her my old G1X to fiddle around (yeah, I know, the G1X is something that should have been dead 2 years ago, however, for beginners it's okay).
Currently I'm teaching her how aperture, shutter speed and ISO all come together, how to achieve a correct exposure, the story of white-balance and so on.
She's learning quite fast. When reviewing images she's already saying things like "this one would have needed a greater DoF" and stuff. All in all I'm quite proud of her. Yeah, I know, it's not rocket science. But for someone who never touched a real camera, she's learning very fast.
As soon as she's comfortable with how to correctly expose images, I'd like to move on - problem is, I'm not sure how the next "step" should be approached..
The technical stuff can be learnt, the artistic can't, of course.
How would /p/ continue? Show her rule-of-thirds, framing and stuff (general composition) in theory or would it be better to go the learning-by-doing path and review the images later, telling her how to improve?
Or would you rather assist her on-the-go, like showing her things as she's shooting?
tl;dr
How to "teach" somebody composition?
