i suggest getting a small and cheap mirrorless.
in case you got tired of the camera and shove it in a closet.
you can get a sony nex f3 for $199 new on newegg.
olympus e-pl6 goes for $269 new on amazon.

D3200....terrible recommendation. Atleast go for the D5... Series. I have had a D3100 and D5100 and the 3 series are just retarded

The d3200 takes literally as good as photo as the d5100-500, just with less gizmo. Do some research, the D3200 is the absolute best quality/price ratio camera you can buy without any close comparison. The A6000 and Ricoh GR coming 2nd and 3rd.

Depends entirely what you want them for. I would much rather the a6000 for its size and picture quality, the d3300 just doesn't do it for me. But you are correct. Same for the Ricoh imo although it does take an outstanding photo it is far too constrained.

He's right. Base entry level cameras are designed for soccer moms. You can get a used mid-tier camera with double the features for the same price.

My T3i craps out when using video after a couple seconds...searched and found others with the same problem...bad suggestion for video but it is good for general photos...traveled all over SEA with it

It isn't. It's one of the best you can get on a shoe-string budget. When you say it "craps out" what do you mean?

Also, I'm assuming you don't have a fast enough card in the camera, but that's pretty cynical of me.
