Help me I died and went to hell and now I have to shoot a wedding

Muthafuckas!

I'm shooting a wedding in a couple of weeks. For wine. Yeah I know that's already a trainwreck. Anyway I'm bringing minimal equipment with me, but I want your thoughts on what I should carry.

I have
EOS DSLR, full frame
EF 24-105 F4
Metz 50-AF1 flash
A Tripod
Two Yongnuo slaves and two umbrellas with stands

Can you guys think of anything else that would be helpful?

Other than that, it looks like you're pretty well covered. You should have two back-up batteries and plenty of cards.

Most of the day is going to be run-and-gun documentary stuff, so you won't need to lug around all of that shit. You'll need your flashes for church formals. When you get to the reception, you're going to have enough downtime that you can set up a little "photobooth" somewhere in a quiet corner away from the hubbub. I would advise doing this, since it's the fastest and most organized way to churn out all of those permutations of "OKAY NOW I WANT ONE WITH ME AND HIS PARENTS OKAY NOW JUST MY NEPHEWS" etc etc etc etc.

Spend a week looking at wedding photography so you know what to capture. Really, wedding photography is pretty simple shit that doesn't require a lot of thought, but you can fuck it up if you aren't planning or aren't paying attention.

Forget the tripod, forget the other flashes unless you actually know how to use them.
As in have them erected, positioned, balanced, gelled in less than 2 minutes. Infact off camera flash is something you shouldn't be fucking around with on location with dying light unless you have an assistant who also knows exactly what they're doing.
Borrow a 2nd Canon just in case, bring lots of batteries and SD cards.

I would disagree about the tripod. They're a lifesaver with making a lot of formal portraits in a very short amount of time while keeping them super consistent frame-to-frame. Consistency is the key here, and helps make your photos look professional.

That's just me, though.

What I learned from taking pictures at a wedding:

1. Get an assistant. It doesn’t matter if they are paid or unpaid, competent or not. It's just nice to have someone to remind you to take pictures of the cake or gather people up to take a group shot.

2. Shoot lots of pictures. There is really no reason to hold back on taking pictures at a wedding.

3. Shooting everything with a shallow DOF looks more "professional" and wedding-like.

4. Changing lenses is a bitch but it's nice having options. I shoot most things with just one lens.

5. Take pictures of everyone you see. People complain when they don't show up in wedding pictures.

6. Give/sell them prints. Digital is nice but prints are better.

7. Drink but not too much.

8. Just take pictures don't do anything else.

10. Stick with the bride. Find out when she is getting ready and just fallow her around all day taking pictures of her.

I meant to say I shot. I had a couple of primes but I ended up taking most pictures with a 50mm. It turned out to be a decent lens to take group shots when you have enough space to back up. The only time I had to get a wider lens was when taking big group shots without space to back up.

It was a really small ceremony. I don't have any experience with big ceremonies that cost lots of of money.
