I'm not a photographer but i was gifted this cheap camera for free. Is it entirely possible to take some decent shots with this?

I took some snapshots with it that i atleast tried to put some thought into their composition but I'm wary of posting them do to the nature of a board I'm not familiar with.

Don't listen to these nobs. Its not the camera that makes good photos, it's the photographer. Give Miroslav Tichý a google search if you think otherwise.

Set it to monochrome and do street photography for easy mode.

These pictures are just about all very bad because the equipment was.

I use a broken Powershot A1100IS, older than this camera, and can get some stuff that I like.

You have to get used to what it can and can't do.

Put CHDK on it so you can get RAW out of it and other little tweaks. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A2300

Yes. As Mr Rockbell said, the best camera is usually the one that could fit in your pocket.
Look up some basic photo cheat sheets about rules of nature composition. Set the camera to auto, and fire away!
