First thing i did when i got it in the mail was fuck with the custom buttons and settings and get to know it for about 4 hours, testing shots, getting positions right. If i were you i would stop focusing on the photography atm and get all that basic stuff out of the way to shoot how you want it to. The ricoh offers very generous customization, so dont waste it.
You cant shoot B&W in RAW in the ricoh, when you set it up for RAW, and go to effects, then put it in B&W or whatever, you are basically making a duplicate image, the B&W in JPEG, and the color in RAW. Every system does this, you shoot RAW to shoot RAW, basic toned, flat color pictures that are highly flexible in Photoshop or lightroom for editing, THEN you add your own B&W.
And personally, i didnt use that flash on the Ricoh, damn thing is bigger than the camera, the camera is supposed to be discreet and sleek, not a giant hotshoe for a giant flash. However i use the flash just fine with my nikon, so there is that.
