However, it should be also noted to add onto
>>2667709 >>2667705, though the body may be relatively inexpensive - the move to a new ecosystem can and will cost you. It becomes a bit more problematic as most RED accessories are proprietary (such as SSDs/CF cards, readers, cables, monitors, EVF etc). You also need to take into account the basics, such as stabilization & batteries - both of which become more expensive (RED One is about 20lbs~ with a lens = you need a tripod+head/shoulder rig with it).
You also have to consider the basics (tripod+head to handle the weight, batteries/plate), and whether you can handle the workflow or not as well (4.5k r3dcode needs to be transcoded unless you are using premier [better to transcode even though premier natively handles it, less stress on your machine]).
Also, learning to use them is an entirely different matter. The menus are set up more like a computer than a camera, which can easily cause issues to inexperienced users, and long boot/setup times will take a toll (takes between 5-10 minutes to boot the camera, 10-20 minutes to run black shade calibration).

It has a Dynamic Range, though I usually refer to it as Latitude - however it is entirely dependent on the lighting and stock (it's extremely difficult to actually measure).
The reason in particular you hear about it a lot with digital in particular is that manufacturers want to match the latitude of film, and the only way of really gauging latitude is through Dynamic Range which is far more easily measured & tested for than latitude.
More DR *is* better but you can get most cameras to match or look very similar by simply lighting within the limitations of the camera (see:
