The electronic viewfinder gives you an exact preview of what the photo will look like, which makes getting the exposure you want much easier. The viewfinder is also a lot larger than dslr's at a similar price point.
A lot of people will tell you to either go DSLR or mirrorless, my best advice is to go down to your nearest camera store and have a play with the models in your price range.
