Nikon DF

Disregarded because of hipster appeal, actually one of the best fucking cameras on the market even today.

Why? Because rabals are EF mounts, meaning dipshits around the world go "hurr ima photograf", buy expensive shit, then drop it on ebay a month later when they get bored. It's ridiculously easy to find lenses at 50% of retail that've been used 3-4 times.

Lumix is more of a bridge camera based off mirrorless cameras, it's better than the sony, but not exactly compact to the same degree.

I'd still call the sony the best COMPACT camera but the Lumix100 is probably the best camera without stepping into interchangeable lens cameras

I'd give it to the RX100 as a pocket camera, but the LX100 is definitely still a compact camera. Obviously quite similar in concept, although the compact camera allows more space for a larger lens and bits sticking off like the larger EVF and all, while the pocket camera trims everything off to keep it from snagging in a pocket.

I'd rather have a 5Diii for that money, to have equal or better capability, and very importantly to be able to adjust all shooting parameters without taking my hands off the camera.

I will give it to the Df for better low light performance and brighter viewfinder.

This is my favorite thing about the ef mount. It's been here so long and it's so ubiquitous that you can find so many good deals. I got a 40mm for 90 bucks, 1000mm f 2 for 200, and a second hand eos m body for 250 with a 22mm f2 lens. A whole lot of great lenses for less than 600 is a steal.

I'll go ahead and say it: the entry level bodies. Nikon D3300, Canon SL1, Sony A6000, etc.

No, they aren't full frame. No, they don't have professional controls. No, they aren't built well, or weather sealed, or have good AF. Really, they aren't special at all.

But they're small, light, cheap, and produce reasonable images, and they're light years ahead of the professional cameras from a few years ago. And a few years from now, their successors will be better than today's top of the line stuff, without costing nearly as much.

It's like keeping up with computers. Build a $4k computer when all the parts have just been released, or wait a couple of years and build the same system for $800. When technology advances that fast, having the newest and best is literally just bragging rights, and you end up looking stupid for wasting all your money.

My first DSLR was Nikon D50. My second was D3300. My third was D700. My fourth, a Canon 6D.

For the price I paid individually for each of them, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another D3300 if I had to start over again. It's that good, for the price.

My only complaint with it was the lack of of a focusing motor for the Nikon AF-D series lenses.

Free Canon rental gear from my school. I won't need to buy a "Professional" lens for the next 2-3 years, since I can use whatever I need, whenever I need it.

Honestly, I fought the decision to switch over, and while I like the ergonomics of the 6D, it doesn't have the same image quality or color reproduction. So I will probably switch back at the end of school, if I haven't gone to mirrorless by then.

I bought an RX1 off ebay with the EVF for 2K while I was drunk a few months back.

Thought I was gonna hate the damn thing and sell it for a profit; have been falling more in love with it the more I use it.

It's the best feeling camera I've ever operated, works so smoothly and seamlessly with one hand whether shooting portrait or landscape. Image quality and color rendition are self-explanatory. Out of focus rendering is beautiful. f/2 bokeh and its "macro" (not true macro but its definitely nice for getting close to objects) gives this cameras images a really unique feel. Noise on this camera is nearly non-existent until you go above 6400, even then it almost looks like film grain, its quite pleasant until you hit 25600.

The only thing critically wrong with this thing is its focus ring. I think I may attempt to replace the ring altogether so I can make use of prefocusing, but I'm afraid of fucking this camera's shit up.

Everybody complains about the AF and I don't see the issue. AF is above average, I haven't missed focus yet and the only compact that I know of that beats it in terms of speed is the x100t. People just need to learn how contrast detection works.

Fuji mf rangefinders are clearly better technical-wise. The lens are sharper, more well-corrected (for the flange distance is much much shorter), and the body does not vibrate as any SLR.

I got to play with a Texas Leica and loved it but maybe if I had more time with it I would rate it higher than the RB, the reason I hold the RB in such high esteem is that it's the Swiss Army Knife of medium format it literally does everything but develop its own film.

They can go full spec with 42mp IBIS and PDAF, but it would be too overkill and more expensive.

And they should think of making a APS-C one, Fuji and Ricoh are basically a easy target with their old stuff, an NEX7 Body(A6000 sensor) with a super prime pancake between 28/40 equiv. would be pretty awesome.
