What did you guys bought on an impulse (or not) and regret it 100%?

I'll start:

>got severall nikkor lenses collecting dust
>searching for some nikon camera to carry
>find a F2, FM, FM2 and F4.
>for some reason the F4 is super cheap
>comes with an MB-21 and MF-23
>mfw omg this is gold

>came back home after a couple of rolls

I wish I'd bought the FM2.

I bought an open-box Sony 135mm f/2.8 [T4.5] STF on a whim.

I've heard the 135/1.8 ZA is almost as good with bokeh and is actually useful with AF. I've been really feeling my 24-70/2.8 ZA bokeh, too.

Literally every photo is out of focus, except for the 3 or 4 taken at f8 or smaller.
The mirror or the flange distance or the focusing screen are out of whack.
Pic related, you can see it's actually focused a lot closer. The problem's exacerbated the further away you focus.

Beautiful rendering, beautiful borkeh, hella sharp, excellent build quality. Incredibly large and heavy for a prime, focal length way too long for me. Barely used it before I sold it again.

Meme lens, mediocre optical quality, very small. It's very obscure so I'll probably never be able to get rid of it, but I never use it and I paid way too much for it. I already have plenty of 28mm equivalents and they're all better than this one.

Another very sharp beautifully rendering legendary lens, once again I didn't learn my god damn lesson that the focal length just doesn't work for me.

And then one I regret selling

This lens is really really good, my favorite 50mm I've ever used and I can't really explain why, it just felt right. Unfortunately I sold off my Nikon digital gear for m43 and this is the one thing I miss the most from my Nikon gear.

Lesson learned, do more research and be careful when buying film gear. Thankfully I have another M42 camera that works. What's weird about the CR-2 is that it has a dial on the film rewinding knob thing that has absolutely no function.

I'm a photojournalist and I'm thinking about dropping anywhere from $150-$300 on an external monitor because I have a t2i and think it'll help me with framing for interviews.

It's a cool lens to have since it's so rare. If you don't like having it you can sell it. If you put it up on ebay it should not be hard to sell. There are some ms optical lenses on ebay sold and for sale. Very expensive. Even if you don't sell it I don't think the price for it will go anywhere but up.

I mean.. they're wonderfully built and they're cute. But they also don't really do anything that the wide end of the kit lens can't do. So that was like 800 bucks of worthless retail therapy. If I was gonna waste that money I could have gotten a Samyang 24/1.4 and a 16/2 or 14/2.8. Then at least I'd have a reasonable choice between whether I want to carry less stuff with me, or whether I want to carry bigger, heavier glass in exchange for more speed.

Liked shooting my girlfriend's USSR rangefinders, bought a Fed 2 and a Jupiter 8 for myself. The camera got held in customs so it took really long to get it. The Jupiter 8 arrived with scratches inside from the aperture blades (though apparently they shouldn't affect the images). The rangefinder on the camera is off at least at infinity. Shot one roll with it, now it just sits on my shelf because I got an XA.

If the first roll looks ok, I may start using it, but currently it just feels like a chore having had all the problems.

You know, I do know that rationally. But emotionally it just feels like an effort due to all the silly problems adding up, which have affected my feelings towards the camera unfairly.

Forgot that the Jupiter 8's aperture adjustment was also misaligned by a fair bit. That I did fix though.

One of these days I promise I'll get a measure and fix it. Maybe grab a Jupiter 12 for it as well. Shame they didn't make a 28mm.

Pretty much this, sadly. I recently decided to buy a D700 and say to hell with film. Too much hassle, even though I do love it. I plan to sell off most of the film gear I've accumulated over the years.

The F4 is cheap because it's a terrible AF camera, and it's too chunky to be a good MF camera. I mean, it's a fun camera to beat around with, but it's a little primitive, caught in between, and definitely should have had an X model like the F90X.

I know your feels though. My first body was a FM2, my second a cheap F4s I found. Such a great feeling body, but not so great after an hour or two. My only regret was not clubbing somebody to death with it, as befits a Nikon F body.

I got me the Sony Alpha 5100 (same technology as Alpha 6000) cause i thought i would not need a viewfinder and the extra keys the Alpha 6000 has.

Now that i've shot a little i regret it. I would really appreciate a viewfinder now, as well as the extra buttons, since fiddling through the menu for every setting is just unnerving.

Question: Can i send it back with the reason being a really noticable fisheye-like distortion? Or is this normal for the kit-lens?

I nabbed a Konica Hexanon AR 100mm f2.8 at an antique shop for $20, thinking that I could adapt it to EOS. Only later do I find that the flange distance makes that impossible with major alterations to the lens. So I dropped another $20 on a pristine Autoreflex T body so I could at least shoot a little bit with it.

It's not so bad, though. At worst I'm out $40 for a very good condition kit, which I'll eventually sell again for twice that.

good luck on it. Consider doing a full CLA as well, it's not hard to do. You can still sell it and if everything works fine and it's film tested you should get at least twice of what you paid for. Did the same to a Zorki S last year, but even had to renew the curtains.
I'm still not sure if I like the Jupiter-12 - how do I frame with this thing? The viewfinders are for 50mm max.

they used glass that had thorium in it. I believe it was an early form of high-refractive formulation.

it's mostly a meme though, the radioactivity isn't powerful enough to hurt you unless you take the rear element out and eat it.

It's pretty good. It's a fast, responsive camera with a great autofocus system. Resolution is acceptable for my purposes. Colours are some of the nicest I've seen on digital, and noise performance is more than acceptable. Bit of a heavy beast, though. I think I'll hold on to my Bronica SQ-Ai for occasional black and white portrait work. I think I'd end up missing the darkroom eventually. Digital can be pretty great, but a medium format optical print is something special.

kinda with my xe2. I'm still trying to find a pancake I can put on to make it a normal focal length with aperture control on the lens. I would have rather gotten an xt10 or x100t or x100s but the xe2 was only 500 new in box.

It's an incredible lens. I was shocked when I first started using it. It's like, nothing big, but super sharp, even wide open, and has next to no CA or distortion or anything people would bitch about. Every time I use it I'm surprised.

I'm back. I bought a minty EM for $80 this morning.
Immediately drove it to a rainforest and made a bunch of photos on ISO80 film with a red filter in very low light, so we'll see if Nikon's automatic long-exposure metering lives up to the rockwell hype.
Used it to meter for my GSW as well.
You know what's a real bitch?
Trying to read the red slow speeds on the meter scale in the viewfinder in the dark with a red filter on...
