What is up /p/,

I am interested in getting into high quality photography for my journeys across the world, and I was wondering what type of camera I should get. More specifically, DSLR, or Film. Why I ask is because my aunt is did the same thing as me, and continued taking photos throughout her life, and she recommended film without a doubt. Now only that, but in my highschool, I remember there was a guy who always took photos of everything, and he had a film camera.

What would you recommend /p/?

Is there any pros or cons to each of them?
