In other words, for people who aren't photogs.
As film cameras, they're fine. Okay build, okay features; glass is more important with film anyways.
As digital cameras, they're targeted at the mass market, to be sold in consumer electronics stores to appeal to non-photogs that just want a camera that will shoot better .jpgs than their phone or a point and shoot.
In other words, if you aren't a photog, it's fine.
If you are a photog just starting out and you want to put your money into EF lenses, fine.
But you'll outgrow it and probably end up wanting something better.
I will say I do see quite a few that have Rebels and L-lenses, which I always thought was kind of strange.
