Surely their Mirrrless options MUST be native F and EF mount right? Why would they bother with a new mount plus adapter setup?

Surely the Canon and Nikon Mirrorless cameras dont need to be TOO much smaller, I dont want them to sacrifice ergos for size, surely they could downsize a fraction and keep the F and EF mounts native? I honestly dont want to fuck around with adapters and shit.

Did that Nikon Mirrorless FF camera patent mention what mount the camera might have?

Those lenses are designed with a certain flange distance in mind. If they made them native EF or F mount, it would have to be retardedly thick and you might as well make it a dslr at that point, because the mount is designed for the mirror box anyway.
This is why you can adapt dslr lenses to mirrorless but not the other way around. Canon and I'm sure Nikon already have adapters for their slr glass to their mirrorless mount, which is the best way to do it.

mirrorless is hardly the death of the DSLR. the DSLR is still going to be the prosumer and professional system because of battery life, autofocus, and lens selection, which leaves mirrorless to fight over the same consumers who are going to look at their phone and wonder why they need to buy a camera.
