In a short answer it is false and bound to get you into huge expenses with little or no results.
You have to get out there, walk and sit through the entire time to find your subject without spooking it, point your camera in the right direction and nail the focus and the exact time to get your shot. You don't need modern technology to make stunning photos, knowing how to use what you have means a lot more. Most of wildlife shooting is about knowing your subjects, what they do, how they think and anticipating what they will do in the next moment.
You can see a lot of wildlife photos on flickr made with old manual lenses recently. Technology can only make your work a bit more comfortable.
