The aperture should really only be set to max (f3.5 in your case) when its really low light. Using something like f8 would be a good start in direct sunlight.
Also pros use auto settings when its appropriate, only need for manual is very tricky lighting situations.
Judging from your camera you probably are newish to photography, just keep shooting!
Although the 600D is still a very good camera.
