So I did my first "official" head shot shoot for a client yesterday.

It was mostly variations of pic related. I liked this one the most out of the bunch.

What is right and what is wrong with this photo? Tear me a new one, please.

Also, how can I edit the face to make it look softer?

The most important thing is to make the model look good/attractive/whatever.

In that regard you have severely failed. Try a higher angle and a wider aperture or something to get fewer of his chins in the shot.

Try to take some colour out, especially red. Maybe try to increase yellow a bit. it does wonders on red skin. If you can, try increasing yellow-green contrast while reducing green a bit.

I just tried some frequency separation, with GIMP, and didn't really get very different results, was unable to make wrinkles disappear like you.
SO I decided to go the other. I took a shot of this statue a while ago and wanted to increase the sharp-soft contrast of statue to background.
I know it's not very selective, but I'm only getting into this.
Any pointers?
The critique thread is dead as fuck and I prolly posted 500 pics in there by now with only a few tips so far.
