Hey /p. Just bought this 52mm lens hood for my 18-55mm nikon kit lens. However whenever I reach a focal length, vignette starts to appear. Any way to troubleshoot this or is my hood not compatible with the lens? Thx. Pic related.

At wider angles the hood will probably get in the way.

Also more imprtantly the hood will rotate as the lens focuses. Sometimes the hood will be in portrait orientation when you are in landscape making matters worse.

A smaller round hood would be better, I've seen some that clip on like the lens cap. The Nikon ones are a rip off.

That's because you bought a universal lens cap that screws into the filter ring instead of getting an specific one for your system that fits into the rail made for the lens hood.

If you have the typical set of close up filters you can try screwing two or three of them one onto each other, you'll see you get that same vignetting.

Get rid of that shit and get a proper one for your camera brand or get used to vignetting for being a cheap bitch.

Its good though that the hood does not rotate when the lens focuses. Ill try to find one online that would be specific for the lens. Still a little ignorant for being a newbie though. Thanks anyways mateys :D
