I'm guessing it's part of the whole "I can't enjoy anything unless people know I'm enjoying it"-thing.
The same applies to boring photos of beaches and selfies with friends at non-memorable events.

No one is going to look at that shitty beach photo ever again - it's just an excuse to write "I'm on vacation. Give me your attention." on Facebook.

I could generally care less what they eat, they could have a steak in front of me and I won't care, but I know it pisses them off to no end when I tell them it's vegan or I'm vegan.

Basically it's to troll people on fakebook, I've never posted pictures of food on /p/
