Finally making money off photography, but still cant afford a leica (im in college). what similar rangefinder would you guys recommend?

Voigtlander Bessa r's look good, pretty cheap, and can mount leica lenses. Good buy?

I personally prefer Voigtlander rangefinder in frameline offerings and aesthetic, so I am not haunted by the ``what if I had gotten a Leica instead'' feeling.

If you're in it for the Leica lifestyle, maybe you should save up a little more of a decent used M3.

Get the R2 for 35mm framelines, R3 for 40mm framelines.
The shutter's a little noisier but they're superior in every way. If you're poor, you're probably only going to be able to afford an M4 or M6, If you get an M6, you'll worry every single day about the corrosion issues.

I like the Voigtlander cameras - but had trouble with RF patch contrast, shorter base.and using with glasses. Not big trouble, but enough to be like "aaaaaaah" when I first used an M3.

Really, they are very nice cameras overall - especially if you have good eyesight..

I had the same problem, but I got a diopter and now I can see everything in my R3's 1:1 viewfinder without using glasses.

I've been doing a lot of research as well on cheaper RFs

The Bessa R seem to be the best option for me. the LTM lenses are cheaper and there aer more available than M. The R is also cheaper than it's M counterparts

The bessa range is just as good if not better than their leica counterparts.

Search it, misalignment with Bessas are common. However, they're easy to align, I've done it in the field in a couple minutes with just 2 screwdrivers. Eventually all rangefinders will need alignment so it's good that it's simple to do it.

But just because I own one (and like it), or they're easy to align, I'm not gonna omit such information when someone's looking to buy one. Especially when such blind fanboyism from people like you on this board is what led to me thinking other things were at fault and delayed me figuring out what was the real problem.

What? Nice implication there pal.

Bessa's are fine. Faster shutter, better x sync, lighter and can be realigned quickly.
You can shoot whatever rangefinder you want but autists will continually complain about alignment problems. These are the same people who don't know how to CLA their own cameras.
