And yes, rear courtain sync is exposing and then flashing right before the shutter closes. The default flash your camera uses is front courtain sync (flash when it opens the shutter). Don't sweat about it though, at parties people move back and forth so blurry parts are going to be everywhere anyway, both front and rear courtains are ok in these environments.
And also practice the hyperfocal on your 20mm, if your camera struggles at iso 1600 af is going to be pretty much useless in low light and viewfinder will be too small to focus manually.
