Does anyone here shoot 35mm film underwater? Maybe with the Nikonos series? Looking to talk about exposure, focusing, lighting etc...

Well, I was wondering - I am probably going to end up buying a Nikonos 3 (due to a good deal being offered and well losing a few bets at last second on eBay for a 5). The Nikonos 3 is fully mechanical with no meter in it - have you found with shooting like shallow underwater say in good bright clear conditions your able to expose pretty well without the meters assistance?

Looking to see if anyone has a rule of thumb with exposure in shallow surf photography, such as underwater looking back at a wave.

I used the meter and overexposed slightly since I was using neg film. I'm sure there are some rough tips to follow (I've heard down to 2-3m shoot at sunny-11 in Caribbean-clear water). The problem is water clarity really can impact light so steadfast rules are a lot less useful underwater. Not sure what kind of deal you're getting...but Nikonos Vs can be pretty cheap. I got mine from KEH for $80. They currently have a green V (rarer) for $149. Grab a lens and you're looking at <$200 shipped (assuming you're in the US). The V definitely would be more useful considering the meter and slightly better underwater ergonomics.

I use a sea and sea motor marine 2, mainly for beach stuff. Pretty fun.
