Death of Photography?

No.2924519 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Has the digital camera and photo editing software killed photography as an art form?

Someone takes a shitty snapshot with no composition, no form or story, no thought into setup of the camera, then goes into Lightroom and applies filters and blasts up and down the blacks/whites, shadows/highlights, contrast, clarity, etc. and whalah, people end up worshiping hacks like Eric Kim.

Why learn to understand exposure, shoot with filters, learn film and developing in a darkroom, etc., when you can take unlimited shots of the subject until it looks right on the LCD screen?

Is photography dead? Is it just a washed up and water logged corpse of it's former self, fallen victim to the times of smartphone cameras, narcissistic social media drones, and incredibly boring generation of screen obsessed shut-in youth?
