Or I could sell my 645Z. We'll see, it depends on how good the lenses are, otherwise it'll be more of a cross-grade than an upgrade.
The Pentax 28-45mm and 90mm lenses are god-tier, but so damn expensive, I really hope this system will come in at under $3000 per lens, so that I can actually own some new glass.

Sensor manufacturers make the MF world go round, if a sensor that size or shape isn't made, the camera isn't either. Although, FWIW, the mount of the camera looks a heck of a lot bigger than the sensor, because you can still see the top edge from a downward angle. You can bet your ass there'll be a model with bigger sensor down the line.

I wouldn't count on that. Pana/Oly equivalents are both $300+.

Zoom is useless (unless it's really fucking good at 12mm) since used Pana/Oly kit lenses are ultra cheap.

Hasslebad still has their high-end H5D series that's not going anywhere, and on paper X1D doesn't look that bad versus Fuji's version.

Now Pentax, on the other hand, is in a shitty spot because 645Z is 3x bulkier, more expensive to manufacture, and its silly PDAF system is not a big advantage. And they are currently in no position to design something completely new (especially since both of their previous forays into mirrorless were epic fails)

Phone screens typically refresh at 60.
But we're talking about 6 MP (FHD) or 11 MP (WQHD) versus the paltry 2.36 MP on camera viewfinders.

Same goes for rear LCDs, they are barely above 1 MP.

probably not soon, because with DSLR they can make one lens and then sell that to a very wide userbase (just by changing the mount/adjusting flange distance).

FF mirrorless market is comparably tiny in size, even if it is growing. Give it time and things might change. Same reason why Sigma releases so few Pentax lenses; they actually have to make separate production batches for them due to pentax still using a mechanical aperature lever (finally about to change), so they only make Pentax versions of their most popular/least mariginal products.

I'm hovering over the preorder button for the G85... Trying to do the mental gymnastics to see if I'll have an extra 1K to blow by October 20th. I think I will. It's like they fixed everything about the G7. Weather sealed with IBIS, HDMI out while filming, they even fixed the battery door. Canon makes a cine camera with global shutter, but seeing as they offer the same model with a regular sensor as well, it comes with some kind of drawbacks.

Pixel quality is perhaps the most important thing in a sensor. It's not always dependent on the size of the pixels but generally that is the case. Bigger sensors generally allow you to have more of those big pixels, so sensor size has more to do with resolution than dynamic range or color range.

It's still a pretty heavy, very expensive lens for a quarter-frame system. It's not a ridiculous halo product like the old f/2 zooms thankfully, but I doubt it'll get many sales no matter how optically impressive it is.

You could use the Leica SL with 1,400 x 1,050 (4.4MP) EVF, but that'll be LCD rather than OLED, so good luck on getting accurate dark colors. Just about every camera OEM has changed from LCD to OLED for a reason. Pixel density is getting hard to push I guess.

I don't do circuit design, but I doubt image sensor pixels are close in design to display pixels.

Increased density/resolution for EVF also kills battery, and most mirrorless cameras have lower battery life with EVF than with rear LCD.

Also, since both EVF and rear LCDs drain battery (along with increased processing for higher res etc) there's less gain from getting higher res screens when you can just zoom in.

Lolympus promised a fast e-shutter. If they managed to speed it up to 1/100s or less, then it shouldn't be distracting even for fast action (mechanical shutters are typically ~1/250s and I haven't seen any examples of visible jello with them ever)

Physical size has almost nothing to do with readout speed, the signal travel delay is insignificant. The number and sampling frequency of ADC channels is what matters.

The lack of an EVF didn't stop the early NEXs from being successful.

For a long time, Samsung had inferior sensors and poorly thought out UI, and their cameras generally lacked anything interesting besides a slightly lower price. Their mount being incompatible with M-mount or any legacy AF glass didn't help either.
They really stepped up their game with lenses and sensors in the last year or two of NX, and made NX1 which almost out-specs E-M1II despite predating it by almost two years, but I guess that still wasn't enough to turn the system profitable (although there's a rumor that a lawsuit regarding some stolen tech was involved)

NEX line only started to get good with the NEX-7 though.

Panasonic announced the LX15 which looks sweet as hell.

Assuming same sensor technology (if there were of that size):
Iso 100 in a format with 1/3.6 crop factor would be like iso 27 in a FF in terms of IQ.

25mm 0.95 on a MFT would be equivalent to a 50 1.9
iso 100 on a MFT would be equivalent to iso 400 on a FF.

MFTers simple refuse to understand simple math otherwise most of them will just die out of buyers remorse. Case in point: the 25mm 0..95 is about 400$ almost half the price of the cheapest 50mm 0.95, however the 25mm is actually an equivalent lens of a nifty 50, which is at most 150$. So MFTers are paying nearly 4 times the price for a cheap 50 1.9 lens with manual focus only and no IS.

Not everyone into MFT is ignorant or pretends not to know/refuses to understand this, they are in the system for the actual advantages of such systems give to their photography. But they a nearly non existent minorit. Most of the MFTers go into the system because of the all hype of the seemingly cheap fast lenses that they actually can't have any benefit from, when you compare to other formats.

In a way it is, because in the end only getting the picture counts. If you can get a bigger sensor in a similarly sized body or the same sensor in a smaller body, it's always an advantage, if size of the camera matters. For some it may matter.
